My Family: My First Ministry

“He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?”

1 Timothy 3:4–5 (NLT)

Before the throne of God and in the presence of witnesses, on June 20, 1998, Catherine and I entered into covenant—a sacred union ordained by God. We vowed to walk together in love, faithfulness, and unity all the days of our lives, until death calls us home. From that holy covenant, the Lord blessed us with two precious gifts: our son, Demetrius Kenyatta Jr. (“Junior”), and our daughter, Denae Kailah (“Princess Kailah”).

As a family, we are not only bound by blood, but knit together by the Spirit, walking in step with the call of God upon our lives. Ministry begins at home—and by God’s grace, we endeavor to be faithful stewards of our household, modeling Christlike love, discipline, and servant-leadership.

Our children serve joyfully in the Audio/Visual and Youth & Young Adult Ministries, not out of obligation, but through the leading of the Holy Spirit. Their hands are trained for service, and their hearts inclined toward worship. They have been guided not pushed into purpose.

Lady Samu-el, my beloved wife and ministry partner, serves as the visionary leader of the Women’s Ministry. Under her leadership, various auxiliaries and small groups thrive, nurturing the spiritual growth of women across generations.

Together, we walk as one—partnering with the Holy Spirit to minister not just in the church, but in our home, our community, and beyond. For truly, the first sanctuary we are called to shepherd is the one within our own walls.
